BIRNS BLACKBIRNTM Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) products locate cracks and weld defects in underwater steel structures, permitting ships to be inspected without dry-docking. BIRNS BLACKBIRN MPI equipment also locates oil leaks in water. Results may be recorded on film or videotape. BIRNS BLACKBIRN equipment uses a 1,625 +/-375 μw/cm2 UV source, with an integral high-efficiency 360+/-30nm UV filter. BLACKBIRN II  (Oil-leak detection) Model 7712 Blackbirn II system is fast, easy, and light-weight. It includes the powerful Model 7710 UV light, Model 3051 top-side ballast with dual-line circuit breaker and GFCI/ELCI in a splash-proof UL-approved dielectric box, and a 17F-037 45-meter power cable. BLACKBIRN II with ROV Ballast  (Oil-leak detection) Model 7715 Blackbirn II ROV system is extremely durable and rugged. It includes the powerful Model 7710 UV light, Model 3064 ROV-mount ballast with metal-shell connectors, 17F-052 3m interconnecting cable, and 17F-053 3m Power-to-Ballast cable. (See a layout drawing.)
