BIRNS Corona: High-Pressure Sodium Vapor Light

General Information

The BIRNS Corona is the world's most advanced nuclear-grade high-intensity light. It is a longterm wet/dry high pressure sodium vapor area light, and can be operated for indefinite periods in air and immersed in cold water without damage. The BIRNS Corona is based on proven BIRNS nuclear lighting technology, in concert with the immense illuminance of HID high pressure sodium vapor lamps.

Applications

The rugged Corona is used for fuel pool lighting, turbine inspection, and illumination of the reactor cavity during fuel handling, but can be used in any applications where long-term use, extreme low levels of maintenance and high luminous efficacies are required.

What You'll Need

To operate the BIRNS Corona, you'll need the following items:

  • The Corona lighthead itself , Model 5220 (which includes the lamp)
  • A Ballast (Model 3802 Wet/Dry Ballast is very popular)
  • A Ballast-to-Light Cable Assembly (Item 17F-028 is used with the Model 3802 Wet/Dry Ballast)
  • Power-to-Ballast Cable Assembly Item 17F-048 (if you're using the Wet/Dry Ballast)
  • Mounting poles are not strictly necessary, but are often very useful.

Configurations

We will be happy to configure Corona lighting systems in any way you wish. The typical configuration has the Corona lighthead on the end of a mounting pole; a Wet/Dry Ballast is also mounted on the pole above the Corona lighthead, and Cable Assemblies connect the two.

CABLE NOTE:

All CORONA cables are polyurethane-jacketed for easy decontamination, and include indexed metal-shell connectors for strength and durability. We make the cables to your order, so you can get any cable length that you wish; special configurations are also available. Contact our Technical Sales Team at 1-888-BIRNS-88 for more information.

We make the CORONA poles to your order, so you can get any length that you wish. Special configurations are also available. Contact our Technical Sales Team at 1-888-BIRNS-88 for more information.

Options

You can customize your BIRNS Corona for your own requirements. These options are:
  a) Mount: Various mounting pole options are available for different applications. Please see mounting table 'A' below for details.
  b) Ballast: Two different ballasts are available. Please see Ballast Table 'B'.
  c) Cable: You may order any length of cable you wish. In addition, special configurations (e.g. 'Y' cables) and/or materials (e.g. Super-Vutron CPE jacket/EPDM insulation) are available as well.



Pole Options Table 'A' Standard pole length is six feet, but you can order any length you wish. Unbroken lengths are available to twenty feet, but pole lengths over six feet cannot be shipped via common courier (e.g. UPS) and therefore require special freight arrangements.
