Reporting directly to the President, the Mechanical/Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing new products. The Mechanical/Design Engineer also performs any other engineering functions and assists other departments as needed. Maintains document control and reports as appropriate.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Design new products as required, and improves/upgrades existing products.

Develop all appropriate documentation for products, including Operating/Instruction Procedures.
- Maintain appropriate documentation control.
- Oversee new product qualification, and develop Engineering Test Procedures (ETPs) and Factory Acceptance Test procedures (FATs).

Assist with periodic internal Engineering Department audits.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in mechanical engineering or related subject from a four-year accredited college or university (GPA >2.0), and ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write manuals, standard procedures, routine reports and correspondence (via letter and email). Ability to speak clearly and effectively before individuals or groups.

SOCIAL SKILLS: Ability to continually interact with others as a contributing member of a close-knit team, with tact and courtesy; a “team-player” attitude. Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with others, possibly of different backgrounds and interests, without friction. Ability to maintain calm and collected, even when under pressure.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and calculus to real-life situations. Ability to apply statistical methods to engineering- and production-related subjects.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Good working knowledge of appropriate CAD/CAE and basic office-related software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc), and the ability to use such tools to perform standard job functions.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to read detailed mechanical blueprints and basic electrical schematics.
- Good understanding of engineering principles, especially the mechanics and thermal properties of metals and glasses. Ability to calculate static stress loads and thermal conduction in relevant materials.
- Good working knowledge of appropriate CAD/CAE/FEA and basic office-related software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc), and the ability to use such tools to perform standard job functions.

Can use appropriate measurement and test equipment. Familiar with/understanding of major applicable Quality and related Standards.
- Has drive to completion on schedule; profit-minded; dedicated. Good time management skills.
