BIRNS PISCES LIGHTING SYSTEM

• Extremely rugged design

• Heavy-Duty materials & Construction

• 132,000 lm; 24,000+ hr-rated lamp life

The BIRNS Pisces Underwater Lighting System is the world's most advanced underwater high-intensity lighting system. It is modeled after the famous BIRNS Corona, a long-term high pressure sodium vapor area light, and is based on proven BIRNS underwater lighting technology, in concert with the immense luminance of HID high pressure sodium vapor lamps.

The rugged BIRNS Pisces is designed for heavy-duty underwater security applications and for use alongside military submarine docks, but can be used in any application where long-term use, extremely high luminous efficacies and minimal maintenance is required.

This outstanding unit provides the following features and benefits:
  1. Very robust and durable construction
    1. Housing fabricated of 63AA-electropolished AISI type 316 stainless steel
    2. Rugged, metal-body underwater pluggable BIRNS Aquamate connectors
    3. Stainless-steel reinforcing bars support tempered glass lens
    4. High-intensity Gas-discharge lamp has no filament, and thus is more resistant to vibration

  2. Extremely easy maintenance
    1. Long-life lamps (rated 24,000+ hours; 28,000 hours to 50% average mortality) reduce relamping requirements
    2. During relamping, lamps may be replaced by hand, in 60 seconds, without tools
    3. All materials used are resistant to long-term immersion in seawater
    4. Lamp operates in dry, one-atmosphere chamber

  3. Highly cost-effective
    1. Brilliant illumination (140,000 initial lumens, 132,000 mean lumens!)
    2. Lowest per-lumen operating costs of any professional lighting system
    3. Commercially-available lamps (price: less than US$100 each!)
    4. Proven design with extensive track record

  4. Adaptable to nearly any situation
    1. Slim design fits nearly anywhere
    2. Pisces lamphead incorporates a Pan/Tilt mounting yoke, providing near-universal aiming
    3. Fixture may be operated in any position without loss of efficiency or any other adverse effect

BIRNS Pisces Front 80% View, showing the lighthead.

Note the heavy-duty stainless-steel support bars under the tempered glass lens. The BIRNS Aquamate connector is indexed (i.e. it has a stainless steel indexing system that prevents mismating) and may be mated underwater or while wet.

BIRNS Pisces Rear View, showing the lighthead.

Note the heavy-duty stainless-steel construction of the unit. Clearly shown are the "Universal" Pan/Tilt mounting yoke assembly and the Rear Nut assembly (incorporating the Aquamate connector).

BIRNS Pisces Proximal Ballast, Top View.

Note the rugged stainless-steel construction, including the wide mounting plates (one on either side of the assembly). Two Aquamate connectors provide connection points for Input and Output power; the two connectors are mutually incompatible to preclude inadvertent mis-mating.

The high-intensity lamp is just visible, situated in its dry, one-atmosphere chamber.

BIRNS Pisces System Complete, as above, but tillted for a different view.

Note the comparatively slim, "flat" design of the Pisces lamphead, and the mounting yoke-- clearly shown in this view. The Mounting Yoke may be removed, if desired, and the Pisces may be bolted directly to the mounting surface.

Note again the rugged construction, many of the details of which are visible in this view.
